What is your time strategy?

I haven't asked a question in a long time...

What is your ntp strategy? I''ve recently become annoyed with time issues to really go through everything and properly configure it.

So far I've set 9 servers across four locations to be my primary servers.

I've given them all the same servers:
server 0.us.pool.ntp.org.
server 1.us.pool.ntp.org.
server 2.us.pool.ntp.org.
server 3.us.pool.ntp.org.

Should I make my server synchronize to each other across the VPN?

What else should I do?

My extent of time server strategy is to use ntp and not timed. Boy was timed a nightmare. I can tell you what we have here, not a lot of strategy or thought went into it. It was like this when I got here and it hasn't gone ugly while I have been here.

We have 5 time servers across 3 locations. They all sync to the same time servers and do not sync with each other. Everything else syncs to these servers based on geographic location.

My advice, don't use timed.

Regards,
J

We run ntp on two machines that sync from ca.pool.ntp.org (I think). They also sync to each other. All other machines on the network sync to these two machines. We also put these servers (or one of them) in the dhcpd configs.
